Real Tech Holdings Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Sumida-ku, Tokyo; Representatives: Akihiko Nagata, Yukihiro Maru, hereinafter referred to as “Real Tech HD”)  served as a distinguished judge at the prestigious TECH PLANTER Asia Final 2023, which took place in CyberJaya, Malaysia. This competition attracted much attention as a venue for the 12 finalist teams that won the preliminary competitions from each country to compete and present their innovative technologies and ideas.

The Real Tech Award was presented to Entomal Sdn Bhd. of Malaysia, which has developed a recycling system that uses Black Soldier Flies to convert food waste into valuable resources such as insect protein and fertilizer. Entomal’s work has been recognized as a promising solution to the problem of food waste, which has become a serious issue in many countries in Southeast Asia, and the company received a double award with the Mitsubishi Electric Award.

The TECH PLANTER ASIA Finals 2023, hosted by Leave a Nest, was held as the final competition of TECH PLANTER Asia, an ecosystem that supports and nurtures real tech startups held in 6 countries (Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam). A record 242 teams entered the competition, and Real Tech HD served as a judge in all six countries through its subsidiary in Singapore.

• Real Tech Award in Malaysia: Moverobotic, developing robotics used in agriculture
• Real Tech Award in Indonesia: Greenlabs, developing non-toxic & safe bio-plasticisers
• Real Tech Award in the Philippines:Makiling Tek, developing capsule-type nano-fertilizers
• Real Tech Award in Thailand: Suratec, developing healthcare predictive analytics and biosensors
• Real Tech Award in Vietnam: Alterno, developing Sand Batteries 

Mr. Nagata, Chairman of Real Tech Holdings, expressed the rationale behind conferring the Real Tech Award to Entomal:

“There are many start-ups related to insects in Japan, but only a few of them are successful. Most Japanese investors would consider the insect sector to be difficult. However, I believe that Southeast Asia has the potential to do better than Japan in the field of insects, and I want to prove it together with Entomal”

 In addition to the speaking teams from Southeast Asian countries, accelerators and incubators, as well as TECH PLANTER ASIA Finals partners from Japan, participated in a lively discussion that brought Japan and Southeast Asia together. Real Tech HD will continue to discover and support deep tech startups like Entomal that accelerate solutions to issues in Southeast Asia.
